INVEST IN THE MISSIONARIES YOU SEND

Let's Start a Conversation

You don't need to have everything figured out. Most missions pastors come to us with a genuine desire to care for their missionaries better — and uncertainty about what that actually looks like in practice. That is exactly the right place to start.

Your church sends missionaries into some of the most demanding places on earth. A Compass Asia church partnership means they don't go without care. Your monthly gift sustains structured debriefing and ongoing support for every missionary your church covers — at no cost to them.

What does it mean to care for the missionaries your church sends?

Your church sends people into some of the most demanding places on earth. You pray for them. You support them financially. But there is a gap between sending well and caring well, and most churches have never had a structure to close it.

The weight builds quietly. Unprocessed grief. Identity strain. Exposure to trauma. It rarely appears on a prayer request. It shows up later, in a missionary who comes home early, or who stays on the field but is running on empty.

Debriefing is preventative care. When your church partners with Compass Asia, you are not reacting to a problem. You are building what prevents one.

Why does your missionary need someone outside your church to debrief them?

Most missionaries come home carrying two things; a good report, and everything that didn't make it into the report. Losses that were set aside. Doubts that felt too risky to voice. Grief, there was never space to process.

It's not about trust. It's that full honesty is complicated when the people listening are also the people who sent you. What missionaries need is someone who understands cross-cultural living from the inside, and has no stake in how they appear.

Compass Asia provides that space. Neutral. Trained. Confidential. Workers who complete a structured debrief don't just return to their church with greater clarity, they return to the field with renewed capacity to continue the work they were called to.

What do your missionaries actually receive through this partnership?

More than a debrief.

Every covered missionary receives a structured five-day Exchange at the Cross debrief at no charge. But between debriefs, they also have access to Compass Asia as a confidential space outside their church and agency. When something is weighing on them, when they need prayer or someone who understands their world, they can reach out. No agenda. No reporting back.

For many missionaries, that ongoing availability matters as much as the debrief itself. Knowing that support exists, and that reaching out won't affect how they are perceived, changes how they carry the work.

 FAQs

  • Your monthly gift sustains the ongoing work of Compass Asia — the time, training, and capacity to provide structured debriefing for missionaries across Southeast Asia. It is not a per-debrief fee. It is what makes consistent, available care possible.

  • Your monthly gift covers the debriefing itself. Missionaries make their own travel arrangements to reach us. We are always open to traveling to your missionaries when that makes more sense — we simply ask that the church covers those travel costs.

  • This depends on your tier. Friend Partners receive a discounted rate when their missionaries are ready to debrief. Compass Partners cover up to five debriefs per year. Covenant Partners cover up to twelve. Each missionary is eligible for up to one debrief per year under the partnership, subject to an approved application and advance scheduling.

  • We run scheduled retreats throughout the year that partner missionaries can apply for and receive preference in booking. When a scheduled retreat doesn't fit the timing, we are also able to arrange debriefs on demand — whether that's a new retreat, an in-person one-on-one, or a full online debrief. We work around your missionary's need, not a fixed calendar.

  • All of our debriefing uses the Exchange at the Cross model developed by Le Rucher Ministries. We offer three formats depending on what works best for your missionary:

Retreat debrief — Our most immersive format. A small group setting with scheduled sessions alongside personal reflection time, worship, and space to simply be still. The retreat environment adds a depth that is hard to replicate elsewhere.

In-person one-on-one — A private five-day debrief with a trained debriefer. The same process, the same depth, without the group dynamic. Well suited for missionaries who need more privacy or whose schedule doesn't align with a retreat date.

Online debrief — The full five-day Exchange at the Cross process conducted via secure video. Daily one-on-one sessions with personal reflection time in between. For missionaries where travel is not possible, this remains a meaningful and effective option.

  • The Exchange at the Cross debrief runs over five full days. Each day includes one-on-one sessions with a trained debriefer, personal reflection time, and space for prayer and rest. The process is cumulative — each day builds on the previous one, moving through life story, grief, loss, and identity. Missionaries leave having processed what they have been carrying, with clarity and renewed perspective for what is ahead.

  • Most member care specialists recommend a structured debrief at least once every two to three years at minimum — and ideally at every significant transition: end of term, field or team change, furlough, or following a particularly difficult season. For missionaries in high-stress or high-exposure environments, annual debriefing is considered best practice. The honest reality is that most missionaries have never had a single structured debrief in their entire ministry career. One debrief per year per missionary is a reasonable and sustainable starting point.

  • Yes. Penang is a neutral, accessible location that raises no flags for workers coming from sensitive regions. It sits at the heart of Southeast Asia with straightforward flight connections from most major hubs in the region. For missionaries where travel to Penang is not possible, we can explore online debriefing options on a case by case basis.

  • Contact us. Crisis situations are handled differently from standard debriefing. Compass Asia is trained in trauma and crisis response and is available when a genuine critical incident occurs. Depending on the situation, additional costs may apply and will always be discussed in advance.

  • No. Debriefing is structured, preventative care — not clinical intervention. It helps missionaries process accumulated grief, loss, and transition before those things become a crisis. If a missionary needs clinical support, we will help connect them to appropriate resources. Compass Asia is not a counseling center.

  • Yes. There is no enrollment window. Partnerships begin when your church is ready.

  • The Friend Partner tier exists precisely for that. Caring well for one missionary is not a small thing — and for that worker, knowing their church has made a formal commitment to their care changes everything.
